By the time summer finally makes an appearance, most of us are more than ready for some fun in the sun. Cookouts, swimming, and outdoor activities are music to the ears of anyone who has just been cooped up inside all winter. We’re not discouraging your seasonal freedom, but it is important to take care of your skin while you’re at it.
You’ve heard about drinking water to lose weight, but it will also impact the health of your skin. Even if this is as close as you can get to being in two places at once, go for it. The sun dries up your skin, and keeping yourself hydrated will return the moisture, returning some youth back into your skin.
Heat also leads to sweat and oily build up. Establish a cleansing and moisturizing routine, and try to stay consistent. Avoid anything too harsh, just be sure to get the job done. Some facial cleansers may also have instructions on using the product while in the sun, so pay attention to those labels.
Products being used on your skin may require you to use sun screen, but it’s generally a good idea anyway. Use something SPF 15 or higher that will protect your skin from Ultra Violet radiation, which will cause your skin to burn. You’ll want to reapply if you’re sweating a lot or take a dip in the pool.
Though you’ve been waiting what seems like forever for the one on one sun time, try to limit the amount you actually spend outside. Most sun screen products only block UV-B rays, and UV-A is what can cause serious damage. Photo age skin and certain types of skin cancer are usually a result of UV-A, so this isn’t something to be taken lightly.
If you simply cannot keep yourself from the gorgeous weather, and who could blame you, cover up. Wear a hat that with a brim that will protect your face, lay under an umbrella, and wear light clothes that will cover even your arms and legs. With your skin and overall health in mind, you’ll be glad you did.
